Look Who Answered the Call: Rotary Phone Testers
Share
One of my favorite things about pattern testing is watching how each maker adds their own voice. From yarn choices to final photos, this tester group absolutely nailed it.
About the Pattern
This intermediate rotary phone pattern is packed with nostalgia and little surprises, like a dial that actually spins and a coiled cord that curls just right. It’s perfect for making pretend calls, adding some retro charm to your desk, or yelling into the void when words fail.
If you want to hook a tiny blast from the past, this one is calling your name.
Meet the Testers
One of the best parts of designing is seeing how other makers bring a pattern to life. The testers put their own spin on the rotary phone, mixing up yarns and adding little details that made each one special. If you’re into nostalgia, fast makes, or a fun little desk companion, this pattern checks every box.
Hook & Yarn: Used a 5mm Furls hook and Bernat Blanket Yarn.
What they loved: “I love the functionality and layout of the pattern, but the video tutorial guide is SO helpful for crafting something like this!”

Hooks & Yarns: Used a 3mm hook with Loops & Threads Petite Purl and a 2mm hook with Hobbii Rainbow Cotton 8/4.
What they loved: “I love how unique this pattern is! There are some really interesting techniques that I have never used before, and it works up really fast!”
Hook & Yarn: 6.5mm hook with Bernat Blanket.
What they loved: “I thrive on nostalgia, so this pattern checks all the right boxes! It’s seriously one of the most fun patterns I’ve worked with and so incredibly creative!”
Yarn & Hook: Knotty Ball Neon Pink, Black, and New Oyster with a 4mm hook; 16mm kawaii-style safety eyes.
What they loved: “I absolutely love how quick this pattern works up! From the photos, it seemed a little more complicated, but your descriptions and videos made it easy to complete. I finished in about 1.5 hours, making it a fun make for kids and markets alike. This would make a great statement piece because it’s nostalgic and so unique.”
Yarn & Hook: Sweet Snuggles Lite with a 5mm hook.
What they loved: “This pattern is absolutely perfect. It brings me back to my childhood and all the memories that I’m able to share with my little ones who now get to enjoy it as well.”
Yarn & Hook: Loops & Threads Cozy Cub yarn with a 5mm hook.
What they loved: “I very much enjoy the nostalgia of this pattern! From the moment I saw it, I knew I would have so much fun making it. The handset is the most amazing design!”
Yarn & Hook: Sweet Snuggles Lite with a 6mm hook.
What they loved: “The best part about this pattern was the nostalgia it brought to people who saw it at my market. Kids were picking it up and putting it to their ear, and adults did too. It was interactive, fun, and truly one of a kind. That’s why it found a home so quickly! I also loved that it was a unique pattern I hadn’t seen from other designers.”
Hook & Yarn: 5mm hook with Parfait Chunky yarn.
What they loved: “It’s a fun and nostalgic pattern! The shaping of the phone was much simpler than I thought it would be, and the video and photos really helped this visual learner. I love it!”
Yarn & Hook: Himalaya Dolphin Baby yarn with a 4.5mm hook.
What they loved: “I really liked how detailed the mini phone is but still so quick to make!”
Yarn, Hook & Eyes: Yarnart Dolce yarn with a 4mm hook and 20mm safety eyes.
What they loved: “The pattern was really easy to follow, but what I loved most was how much fun my toddler has with the phone! He makes a million phone calls a day and takes it everywhere!”
A huge thanks to all these amazing testers for their creativity and honest feedback. If you make your own rotary phone, I’d love to see it! Tag me on socials or send me a photo so we can keep the crafty fun going.
