I Tried Premier Parfait Plush: Here's How it Compares to My Go-To Parfait Chunky
Share
My Go-To Yarn and Why I Tried Something New
I usually make my cauldrons with Premier Parfait Chunky because it is soft and easy to work with. When Premier released Parfait Plush, I was curious to see how it would compare. Plush is thicker, comes in larger skeins, and has the same smooth texture as Parfait Chunky.
For this experiment, I used my Big Cauldron Pattern, which is perfect for for testing these yarn differences. You can find the pattern here.
First Impressions of Parfait Plush
Plush felt almost identical to Parfait Chunky in texture. The main difference is the thickness and the larger 200g skeins, compared to the 100g for Parfait Chunky. I used the same Seal color for both cauldrons to keep the comparison consistent.
Working it up: Cauldron Test Run
I made both cauldrons using my Big Cauldron pattern. The only change was the hooks size for the Parfait Plush. The pattern is written for Premier Parfait Chunky with a 5mm hook, which I used in the this comparison. For Plush, I sized up to a 6mm hook to accommodate the extra thickness. I also made a slight modification to the inside color. The original pattern uses the same gray as the outside for the inside, but for these cauldrons, I decided to match the inside to the potion lid instead, using Teal for Plush and Rock Candy for Chunky. This allowed me to use just one skein of gray and one skein for the potion color per cauldron instead of two skeins of gray.
The Plush cauldron used more yarn overall and ended up larger than the Chunky version. It also holds more candy, which is a fun bonus!

On the Label
Both yarns are labeled Super Bulky (6). Yarn thickness is measured by Wraps per Inch (WIP), which counts how many times yarn wraps around a ruler in one inch. For a Super Bulky Label, yarn wraps 5-6 times per inch. This range allows for multiple actual thicknesses under the same super bulky category, which is why Plush feels thicker than Chunky even though both share the same Super Bulky label. Both are 100% Polyester and machine washable.
Finding the Right Hook Size
When swapping to a thicker yarn like Parfait Plush, I match the thickness of the yarn to the thickness of my hook. Then I do a test swatch to see if the fabric tight enough for amigurumi but still smooth. I adjust up or down as needed. In the photo below, Plush is on the left and Chunky in on the right. I have matched both hooks to the thickness of the yarn.
How Thickness Affected My Project
The finished cauldron came out slightly bigger and chunkier than the Parfait Chunky version. Stitch definition stayed neat because the texture is the same.
Candy Capacity
The Parfait Plush cauldron holds more candy than the Chunky version. I can fit about 12oz of candy in the Plush version and about 7oz in the Chunky version. Bigger Yarn, bigger cauldron, more treats. Perfect for Halloween.
My Final Thoughts and Who Should Try Plush
Plush is ideal if you want larger, chunkier cauldron. Parfait Chunky works best if you want a smaller, more compact project. Both are enjoyable and feel soft and smooth.
