A Crochet Watering Can Pattern Is Coming Soon (With a Hidden Candy Stash)

A Crochet Watering Can Pattern Is Coming Soon (With a Hidden Candy Stash)

This pattern started with a very specific goal.

I wanted a spring candy stash pattern that wasn’t tied to one particular holiday.

Something that could work for Easter baskets, a Mother’s Day gift, or a little surprise for the gardener in your life. Seasonal, but flexible.

That idea eventually turned into this Crochet Watering Can pattern.

The watering can is worked mostly in spiral rounds, with a few back-and-forth rows that create the opening of the vessel. The top has a small half cover, just like a real watering can, which partially hides the stash space inside.

It’s also a fairly low-sew project. The only pieces added at the end are the handle and the spout. Three seams and the watering can is finished.

I designed both a Big and Mini version, and each one creates a soft plush watering can with a hidden space inside for candy, small gifts, or whatever little surprises you decide to tuck inside.

Designing this one felt a bit like solving a puzzle. Getting the shape right, figuring out the opening, and making sure the stash space still worked the way I wanted. There were a few prototype watering cans involved!

I’m really happy with how it turned out.

The Crochet Watering Can pattern releases March 26, so if you’re someone who likes to plan your projects ahead of time, this is your early heads-up.

What Could Go Inside the Watering Can?

Candy is the obvious choice. I support this decision.

But while designing this pattern I kept thinking about all the other tiny things that could live inside a watering can too.

So I’ve started collecting garden-themed mini patterns that would pair perfectly with it. Little plants, bugs, whimsical garden bits… basically tiny things that feel like they belong in a watering can.

Most of the minis I’m gathering will fit nicely inside the Big watering can, which has plenty of room for little surprises. The Mini version can still hold a small treat, but it also makes a pretty cute plush all on its own.

Over the next little while I’ll be sharing some of my favorite designs from other crochet designers that work well with this pattern. There are so many clever mini patterns out there, and this felt like a fun excuse to shine a light on some of them.

I haven’t found every mini I’m looking for yet, so I may end up designing a few myself too!

Get Ready!

The Crochet Watering Can pattern releases March 26.

When it launches, the Big and Mini versions will be available individually, or together as a bundle if you want both sizes.

If you like to plan your projects ahead of time, now’s a good moment to grab your yarn so you’re ready to start when release day arrives.

I’ll also be sharing a few sneak peeks as we get closer to launch day, so if you want to see more of the watering can before the pattern drops, you can follow along on Instagram.
